Brown Sugar Pound Cake

I have had this recipe since 1975. It is a oldie but goodie.

1 cup shortening

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 (1 lb) box light brown sugar

5 large eggs

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking powder

1 cup evaporated milk

1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 300

Beat shortening, brown sugar and butter until creamy. Adds eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, salt and baking powder; add alternately  with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured bundt pan. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely on wire rack. Drizzle with glaze

Brown Sugar Glaze:

1/2 cup butter

1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

1/4 cup evaporated milk

3 cups powdered sugar, sifted

1 tsp vanilla

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in brown sugar, cook 1 minute; Add milk, powdered sugar and vanilla; whisk until creamy. Remove from heat, and pour over cooled cake.
